ARCHITECTURE // Rehabilitation Centre for Young Inukjuak Girl

Architects : EVOQ + CGA architects in consortium Area : 1 785 m2 Project’s type : Healthcare / Institutional Construction site : 2013 Contractor : Construction Pépin-fortin Project year : 2015 Cost : 17 950 000$

The Rehabilitation Centre for young Inukjuak girl provides an open-space reintegration unit with a capacity of 10 girls. There is also an accommodation to host two families who want to visit their daughter and an unheated shelter for utility vehicles. The one storey building has an architectural program unfolds in tow distinct parts: the living units and the administrative spaces and support. Educational and recreational spaces were naturally positioned to the meeting of these two wings. They provide a delicate transition between functions, from the maximum privacy of the rooms to the center’s public entrance. The conceptual idea and art works are inspired from the qulliq, Inuit stone lamp, symbol of warmth and community well-being in which women are traditionally the guardians.
